Pali, The City of Sandalwood - Vientiane, Laos

Image
Pali, The City of Sandalwood Vieniane, Laos The name of the city is derived from Pali, the liturgical language of Theravada Buddhism. Although the original meaning of the name of the city is "city of sandalwood". as shown by ancient Lao inscription which wrote according to etymology, unlike modern Lao which is written phonetically, in modern Lao, the meaning of the name Vientiane is ambiguous. Many Lao people claim that the city's name means "city of the moon" because the words of moon and sandalwood are written and pronounced identically. Vientiane is best viewed as a comfortable transit point for other places in Laos, or as a recuperative stop on the way out. It has a enough reason to spend more than a couple days here. Vientiane's attractions include: Lao National Museum, Patuxai, The Ark of Silk, Kaysone Phomvihane Museum, Lao People's Army History Museum, Buddha Park, Black Stupa, Wat Si Muang, Wat Si Saket, etc. 1. Unique modes of transportation such as motorcylce taxis and cyclos make the tour relatively easy to explore the city centre.   Ho chi Minh City was formerly named Saigon prior to annexation by the Vietnamese in the 17th Century.
