The City of Anuradhapura and Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka -formerly Ceylon- is an island nation south of
India in the Indian Ocean. Its diverse landscapes range from rainforest and
arid plains to highlands and sandy beaches. It’s famed for its ancient Buddhist
ruins, including the 5th-century citadel Sigiriya, with its palace and
frescoes. The city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's ancient capital, has many ruins
dating back more than 2,000 years.
1. Pidurangala
Rock
Pidurangala
is where King Kassapa relocated the Buddhist monks who had previously occupied
the area around Sigiriya. Just beyond an old temple which sits at the base of
the hill, the path leading upwards is found.
2. Citadel of Sigiriya - Lion Rock
Here is the astonishing frescoes of bare-breasted maidens painted 15 centuries ago, a wall covered in graffiti that is more than 1,000 years old and Asia's oldest surviving ladscape garden.3. Little Adam's Peak
Little Adam’s Peak lays on the eastern edge of the Ella Gap,
straight across from the summit at Ella Rock. The views are
similar, but from Little Adam’s Peak you can see the Ruwana Falls, which border
the highway headed south.
