The City of Anuradhapura and Sri Lanka


Sri Lanka -formerly Ceylon- is an island nation south of India in the Indian Ocean. Its diverse landscapes range from rainforest and arid plains to highlands and sandy beaches. It’s famed for its ancient Buddhist ruins, including the 5th-century citadel Sigiriya, with its palace and frescoes. The city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's ancient capital, has many ruins dating back more than 2,000 years.















1. Pidurangala Rock

Pidurangala is where King Kassapa relocated the Buddhist monks who had previously occupied the area around Sigiriya. Just beyond an old temple which sits at the base of the hill, the path leading upwards is found.





2. Citadel of Sigiriya - Lion Rock
Here is the astonishing frescoes of bare-breasted maidens painted 15 centuries ago, a wall covered in graffiti that is more than 1,000 years old and Asia's oldest surviving ladscape garden.





3. Little Adam's Peak

Little Adam’s Peak lays on the eastern edge of the Ella Gap, straight across from the summit at Ella Rock. The views are similar, but from Little Adam’s Peak you can see the Ruwana Falls, which border the highway headed south.



4. Sigiriya World Heritage Site (Sigiriya)


Sigiriya or Sinhagiri is an ancient rock fortresslocated in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 meters high. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning.






5. Lipton’s Seat (Haputale)


Haputale is a town of Badulla District in the Uva Province, Sri Lanka, governed by an Urban Council. The area has a rich bio-diversity dense with numerous varieties of flora and fauna. Haputale is surrounded by hills covered with cloud forests and tea plantations.



6. Ella Rock (Ella)

Ella is a beautiful small backpacker, hub on the southern edge of Sri Lanka's Hill Country. It has become to go-to town in the hill country for tourists and as a result has a reasonably well-established tourism-orientated economy.
