Recommended Places to Visit in Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu it is situated on the tropical island of Borneo, and is the state capital of the Malaysian state Sabah, which is one of the two states of East Malaysia. The city is located on the northwest coast of Borneo facing the South China Sea. Kota Kinabalu is a major part of tourist spot which is to make your holiday wonderful experience.

Just around a corner you have long sandy beaches, paradise islands, virgin coral reefs, tropical rain forests and the mighty Mount Kinabalu is only 90 min. away from the city. I'd like to introduce the recommended places to visit in Kota Kinabalu.

1. City Mosque

This beautiful white and blue colored Mosque was constructed in 1993 and was officially opened to the public on February, 2000 after Kota Kinabalu received its city status. The Islamic architecture was based on one of the holiest sites in Islam - the Nabawi Mosque, in Saudi Arabia. From a distance, the Kota Kinabalu City Mosque seems to float on the top of the water. This mosque is probably one of the most photographed structure in Kota Kinabalu because of its unique and spectacular structures. When the mosque is illuminated over the black water of Likas Bay, it is considered one of the most beautiful structures in the city and in the entire country of Malaysia.

2. Lok Kawi Wildlife Park

The Lok Kawi Wildlife Park is located along the Penampang - Papar old road, about 25 km from Kota Kinabalu city. It was officially opened to the public on 2007. The park is fully developed by the Sabah Wildlife Departement. The park consists of two components: zoological and botanical.

The Lok Kawi Wildlife Park is run by Sabah Wildlife Department under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment. The Botanical Site is managed by Sabah Forestry Department. Among the inhabitants of the zoo(zoological component) are the Borneo Pygmy elephants, Proboscis monkey, Malayan tiger, as well as some different species of deer. On the Botanical side, visitors can walk the 1.4 km trail that leads to the Herbal and Ginger Garden to catch a glimpses of the ever famous pitcher plant and an opportunity to examine some rare plant species up close. Some rare trees can also be found in this area.
