Jeju Olle-gil Trail - South Korea

Jeju Olle-gil Trail

Jeju Olle Trail is a long-distance foot path on Jeju Island, an island off the south-west coast of South Korea. There are 26 routes in total (21 main routes, and five sub-routes).

Each route offers unparalleled views of Jeju Island's individual, dramatic landscape. The routes have an average length of 16 km and all together total 422 km. The exact length and locations change over time as trails are modified or re-routed.

The routes are also organized by level of difficulty, so visitors can choose the course that is appropriate for them. The shortest route can be completed in three hours and the longest takes up to eight hours. Each course offers guide signs and posts so even first timers will find it easy to explore.

In the local dialect, "Olle" originally referred to the narrow path between the street and one's doorstep. Jeju Olle-gil, a series of walking trails that stretch around the entire coast of the island, is one of the many attractions and activities that Jeju has to offer.

Jeju Olle Walking Festival

Friday, November 3, 2017 & Saturday November 4, 2017

The Jeju Olle Walking Festival is held in autumn when Jeju’s nature is at its best, to offer the opportunity of walking the wonderful Jeju Island with fellow participants who enjoy walking tours, along with performances and food.

Through this festival, people can experience various cultural art programs such as making grain syrup with tot (brown algae), wearing traditional wedding costume, and catching anchovy (melhurigi) as well. Other activities including card game, football and other activities are prepared for all visitors.

The Walking Festival is one way that Jeju is promoting eco-friendly, sustainable tourism and hopes to bring Jeju to the world through this event. Part of the festival is known as the Clean Olle Campaign that participants were encouraged to bring their own waste.

As an added incentive to help keep the trail clean, people who filled five 10 liter bags of trash collected along the trail received a special Jeju Olle Trail water bottle. In addition to these steps, the festival also provided a free shuttle bus transportation system for pre-registered participants.
